Britannia Silver Coin

Introduced by Great Britain in 1997, the Britannia is struck from 95.8% silver and is the world's heaviest silver bullion coin. Mintage is just 100,000 per year. In 1997 the Royal Mint started production of silver bullion coins also under the name “Britannia”. The alloy used is Britannia silver with millesimal fineness 958 (95.8 %). The silver coins are available in 1 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounce.

This 2015 Britannia £2 silver coin, is the largest and purest legal tender coin in the UK and is therefore Capital Gains Tax Free (CGT Exempt).

A long tradition continues by using the Great British national symbol Britannia.

Britannia's first appearance on British coinage was on the farthing in 1672.

As usual, this British Silver Britannia bullion coin contains one ounce of fine Silver, but from 2013 onwards the coin is not produced in Britannia Silver, rather it is a purer Silver coin at .999 purity. Multiples of 25 are now supplied in Royal Mint Tubes.

Britannia silver coins contain one troy ounce of silver and have a face value of £2. Silver Britannias also are issued in fractional sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth of a troy ounce and with face values of £1, 50p, and 20p respectively. Like the gold coins in 2013 two additional sizes were introduced, a five-ounce coin of face value £10, and a fractional size of one-twentieth of face value 10p.
